I’m so excited to be able to share my review for this amazing book! I so enjoyed reading it and just couldn’t put it down.  A definite 5 star read for me which I will be recommending to absolutely everyone as I feel it is a must read.

An Act Of Silence is available in ebook now and will be released in paperback on the 11th January.  You can get your copy  here.

Book Blurb:

MOTHER. WIFE. POLITICIAN. LIAR.

THEN: How far did she go to conceal the truth?

Politician Linda Moscow sacrificed everything to protect her son: her beliefs,
her career, her marriage. All she wanted was to keep him safe.

NOW: What will she risk to expose the lies?

When the voices she silenced come back to haunt her, Linda is faced with
another impossible choice. Only this time, it’s her life on the line…

An Act of Silence is about the abuse of power, the devastating effects of keeping the truth buried, and the lengths a mother will go to save her child.

My Review:

Wow i so enjoyed this book.  It was such a chilling, tense and emotional story that I just couldn’t put down and it is one that will be staying with me for ages.

An Act of Silence explores the very difficult subject of abuse that was very difficult to read about.  I think it’s the knowledge that situations like those mentioned in the book has actually happened in real life that makes this book quite so chilling.  It’s amazing to me that abuse like this still happens and worse that some people can still get away with it.

The story alternates between the perpetrators and what they did and their attempts to push it all under the carpet and the victims, who are having to rebuild their lives and are trying to get justice for what has happened.  This makes the book a very poignant and heartbreaking read as the reader is able to see both sides of the story and witness first hand the affect that such abuse can have on the victims.  The callus, uncaring attitude of the perpetrators compared with the emotional effects that the victims go through makes for very emotional reading.  That victims of such crimes may feel this way and blame themselves is a hard truth to realise.

I felt for the two main characters Linda and Gabrielle.  Despite having a difficult mother/son relationship, you soon become aware that they are both quite complex characters that are just searching for love and acceptance.  They are actually quite good people underneath it all but have been forced to make some difficult decisions.  I did feel a lot of sympathy for the pair of them and the situation that they find themselves in.  This increased as the story unfolds and it become more obvious how naive they have been and how deep and twisted the deception goes.  I found myself hoping that they would find their way out of their current situation and have a happy outcome.

The author does a great job of slowly unraveling the story so that the facts are gradually revealed to the reader.  The story told from multiple points of view also increases the readers understanding of the situation and increases the tension in the book as the reader becomes aware of things that other characters might not be aware of yet and as you start to get an understanding of just how deep and twisted the situation is.  As cliche as it sounds I really couldn’t put this book down and found myself trying to hide away from the kids just so I could read a little bit more.  I even downloaded the ebook so I could switch to the kindle and read at night when I was up with the baby as I was desperate to read more and find out what was going to happen.

This is Colette McBeth’s third book and I will definitely be going back and reading her other books as I thought this one was outstanding! It would make a great book club book as it would provide lots of great debates and talking points.  I can’t wait for someone else I know to read it so I can discuss it with them.  A fantastic book that I will be recommending everyone to read.

Huge thanks to Wildfire books and Anne Cater for my copy of this book and for inviting me onto the blog tour.

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry it’s taken me so long to post another review, things have been a little hectic.  I’m very excited to bring you my review of Deep Blue Trouble by Steph Broadribb as my first review and blog tour of 2018.

Deep Blue Trouble is available to buy on paperback and ebook now here.

Book Blurb:

Single-mother Florida bounty hunter Lori Anderson’s got an ocean of trouble on her hands. Her daughter Dakota is safe, but her cancer is threatening a comeback, and Lori needs JT – Dakota’s daddy and the man who taught Lori everything – alive and kicking. Problem is, he’s behind bars, and heading for death row. Desperate to save him, Lori does a deal, taking on off-the-books job from shady FBI agent Alex Monroe. Bring back on-the-run felon, Gibson ‘The Fish’ Fletcher, and JT walks free. Following Fletcher from Florida to California, Lori teams up with local bounty hunter Dez McGregor and his team. But Dez works very differently to Lori, and the tension between them threatens to put the whole job in danger. With Monroe pressuring Lori for results, the clock ticking on JT’s life, and nothing about the Fletcher case adding up, Lori’s hitting walls at every turn. But this is one job she’s got to get right, or she’ll lose everything… Breathlessly paced, and bursting with high-voltage action and edge-of-your-seat jeopardy, Deep Blue Trouble is the unmissable next instalment featuring one of the most memorable and fearless female characters in crime fiction.

My Review:

Deep Down Trouble is a fascinating, fast paced thriller with heart which i really enjoyed.  Lori is on a mission again, but this time it’s more personal as the outcome could help save JT, a man she really cares about and the father of her child, from the electric chair.  Travelling across America she must try to find Gibson ‘The Fish@ Fletcher before the official man hunt does or things do’t look good for JT.

I loved the main character Lori Anderson.  I thought she was a fantastic strong, Kick ass character who definitely knows how to look after herself in some difficult situations.  Lori’s relationship with her daughter and JT made her seem much more human and meant the reader got to see a softer side of her which made her much more relatable.  I grew fond of her throughout the book and  found that I wanted her to succeed and have a happy ending,  I also like JT, despite being tough on the outside he obviously had a soft spot for both Lori and his daughter which was lovely to see.  His frustration at being stuck in prison and not able to protect or help was almost palpable and was very touching. Lori and JT’s relationship added a great emotional element to the story and made the story a little different then other crime stories I have read.  It helped to make me more involved as a reader and the story seem a lot more real.

The story opens really strongly, straight into the action and I felt immediately drawn into the story.  The book is quite easy to read as it is fast flowing with a lot of action making it hard for the reader to put down.  I also felt that I immediately related to Lori and her feelings of trying to do the best for your kid in a hard situation.  It was quite poignant to read about Lori’s feeling regarding her daughter, her illness and her struggle to do the best thing for her.

The book feels quite real as the investigation unfolds at quite a realistic place and she make revelations from normal clues rather than just jumping to mad conclusions.  This helped increase my enjoyment of the book as I felt more connected to the characters and more concerned for them if things went wrong.

This is the second book kin the series but it is the first book I have read by this author.  I do feel it might have been beneficial to have read the books in order as I feel that i had a lot of catching up to do at the beginning of the book getting up to speed with what had happened in the first book and learning more about JT and Lori’s relationship.  That said the author does spend time recapping the first book and I soon got up to speed.  I will definitely be reading more from this author and will be recommending this book to anyone who likes clever. well plotted thrillers.

Huge thanks to Orenda books and Anne Cater for my copy of this book and for inviting me to be part of the blog tour.
