My Review:
This was an very interesting and original thriller from a new author for me. The thing that most stood out for me was that the author has a background in psychiatry so the descriptions of the secure unit seemed very realistic. I found it fascinating to learn more about mental health and the type of work secure units do.
There are some fantastic characters in this book who I enjoyed getting to know. The hairdressers in particular were incredibly funny and actually had me laughing out loud. My only slight criticism is that there were a lot of characters introduced at once which was hard to keep track of to begin with.
The story is very fast paced and there was always something happening that kept me reading far too late. It’s a very powerful storyline which manages to be both dark but also have some extremely funny moments which helps bring some light relief to the story. The tension is slowly built up until it becomes almost unbearable. I found myself hiding away from the kids as I tried to fit in a few more pages.
