Most people have done it with the books standing up but I could not get mine to stay standing up and once they all fell over in a perfect domino effect I decided to try something different 😂

#BookReview: The Night In Question by Susan Fletcher @sfletcherauthor @TransworldBooks @alisonbarrow @hanwints #TheNightInQuestion #SusanFletcher

Book Synopsis:

Florence Butterfield has lived an extraordinary life full of travel, passion and adventure. But, at eighty-seven, she suspects there are no more surprises to come her way.

Then, one midsummer’s night, something terrible happens – so strange and unexpected that Florrie is suspicious. Was this really an accident, or is she living alongside a would-be murderer?

The only clue is a magenta envelope, discarded earlier that day.

And Florrie – cheerfully independent but often overlooked – is the only person determined to uncover the truth.

As she does, Florrie finds herself looking back on her own life . . . and a long-buried secret, traced in faded scars across her knuckles, becomes ever harder to ignore.

Readers of Elizabeth is Missing, Small Pleasures or Dear Mrs Bird will love prize-winning author Susan Fletcher’s The Night in Question – an absorbing and uplifting novel with a uniquely loveable protagonist at its heart.

My Review:

I absolutely loved this absorbing, gripping read which will definitely be staying with me.

Firstly I absolutely loved Florrie and rate her as one of my favourite characters ever. It was really lovely getting to know her and learning more about life. Florrie has definitely had an amazing, varied life and I loved living precariously through her as she experiences things I could only dream of. I warmed to her immediately and quickly wished that I knew her in real life.

I thought the story had a great pace to it and it was fun to follow her and Stanthorpe as they try to solve the murder. The clues were revealed in a realistic way and there were lots of twists that kept me guessing. In between the murder mystery there are flashbacks to her younger days where we learn more about her past loves which was really fascinating but quite emotional at times and my heart broke as I realised that she’d never let herself be happy.

The ending was brilliant and I was really pleased with how things ended. I wasn’t able to figure out who done it and I loved how all the other threads of story came together. I’m really hoping that there might be a sequel as I’d love to see more from Florrie and Stanthorpe.

Huge thanks Alison Barrow for my copy of this book and for inviting me to the lovely celebration event in London. Thanks also to Susan for being so lovely and supportive. It was wonderful to meet you.

#BlogTour: Her Deadly Friend by Rachel Sargeant @RachelSargeant3 @HobeckBooks #HerDeadlyFriend #RachelSargeant

Good afternoon everyone I’m pleased to be re-sharing my review of the fabulous Her Deadly Friend by Rachel Sargent for the blog tour.

I read this book last year and really loved it so I’m thrilled to see it being republished with a snazzy new cover. I’m even more excited to learn there is a sequel, Her Charming Man, coming out on the 14th May 2024.

Find out more about the book below.

Book Synopsis:

A random sequence of murders rocks West Gloucestershire. First one, then another. From calculated and clinical, to opportunist and frenzied. As the body count tops five, Detective Inspector Steph Lewis’s investigations point to Amy Ashby as chief suspect for the rampage.

Steph and Amy were arch enemies at school.

Amy, still seething with fury about what Steph did back then, refuses to let the detective stand in the way of her current hunt for a new man and a fresh start. This time, it is for keeps.

As the evidence mounts, Steph is convinced of Amy’s guilt. But is Steph obsessed with a schoolgirl vendetta that could wreck her career and destroy her family? Or is she closing in on a deadly killer?

Her Deadly Friend is the first book in the Gloucestershire Crime Series, featuring DI Steph Lewis, a spirited, no-nonsense detective with secrets of her own.

My Review:

Her Deadly Friend is a fast paced, twisty read from one of my favourite authors.

Firstly I really liked the main character Stephanie and enjoyed following her throughout the book. She was a very real, sympathetic character especially as she’s suffering from a migraine for most of the book. As a headache sufferer myself I admire her strength to keep going despite this.

Steph and Amy’s interesting past was fascinating to unpick. I think it’s fair to say the pair have a lot of history between them and it was difficult to tell initially who was telling the truth about what happened. It definitely helped throw some mistrust towards Steph as I began to wonder if she what she was really like and what she was capable of.

This book grabbed me from the start and the action never really let’s up as there was always something happening to keep my interest. I had my suspicions about what was going on but had to keep reading to find out if they were right. There were lots of twists and red herrings, especially towards the end which kept me constantly second guessing myself.

I’m looking forward to reading more from this series in the future. Huge thanks to Rachel for inviting me onto the blog tour and to the publisher for my copy of this book.

Two For Tuesday: Birthday Books #NewBooks #TwoForTuesday

Good morning everyone today I thought I’d share two books I got for my birthday. Yes I know my birthday was nearly a month ago (I’m not trying to milk it honestly) but my best friend and I have been really busy so only caught up over the weekend.

These are the two books I bought with the voucher she kindly gave me (thanks Julie)!

Find out more about the books below ⬇️

If you received a book voucher what books would you buy?

You Are Here by David Nicholls

Sometimes you need to get lost to find your way

Marnie is stuck.
Stuck working alone in her London flat, stuck battling the long afternoons and a life that often feels like it’s passing her by.

Michael is coming undone.
Reeling from his wife’s departure, increasingly reclusive, taking himself on long, solitary walks across the moors and fells.

When a persistent mutual friend and some very English weather conspire to bring them together, Marnie and Michael suddenly find themselves alone on the most epic of walks and on the precipice of a new friendship.

But can they survive the journey?

A new love story by beloved bestseller David Nicholls, You Are Here is a novel of first encounters, second chances and finding the way home.

Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobson

Nuclear war begins with a blip on a radar screen.
This is a minute-by-minute account of what comes next.
It has to be read to be believed.

There is only one scenario other than an asteroid strike that could end the world as we know it in a matter of hours: nuclear war.

Until now, no one outside official circles has known exactly what would happen if a rogue state launched a nuclear missile at the Pentagon. Second by second and minute by minute, these are the real-life protocols that choreograph the end of civilization as we know it.

Decisions that affect hundreds of millions of lives need to be made within six minutes, based on partial information, in the knowledge that once launched, nothing is capable of halting the destruction.
Based on dozens of new interviews with military and civilian experts who have built the weapons, been privy to the response plans, and taken responsibility for crucial decisions, this is the only account of what a nuclear exchange would look like.
Nuclear War is at once a compulsive non-fiction thriller and a powerful argument that we must rid ourselves of these world-ending weapons for ever.
