Meanwhile, Hunter’s team must work closely with the MIT, with or without him, to solve the murder in this taut crime thriller.

Hunter’s Force is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Hunter’s Force is another fantastic book from this talented author. It’s gritty and complex as it deals with the difficult subject of human trafficking but the author also manages to project warmth and some humour into the story too.

I love books set in Edinburgh! I’ve visited the city a couple of times and fell in love with its historic buildings and great atmosphere. The author’s descriptions are brilliant and I enjoyed reading about some of the places I had visited as I felt more involved in the story. It was also interesting to visit some of the shadier places that tourists don’t get to visit in this book though.

Hunter was once again a great main character which we get to know a bit better in this book. He’s an experienced cop with a complicated personal life and it was interesting to see him struggle with balancing both of them. He comes across as being firm but fair which has earnt him the respect of his team. I loved the banter and sarcasm the team have with each other which broke up the hard hitting story. I really warmed to him and it was fun following him on his investigation.

This book was incredibly gripping and I found it very hard to put down. Its a book that had me sneaking away from the kids to try and read ‘just one more chapter’ or staying up far too late to read more. If you are looking for a new crime series I highly recommend this one.

Huge thanks to Rachel from Rachel’s Random resources for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.

After Whorl Bran Reborn is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

After Whorl Bran Reborn is another entertaining and absorbing read in the Celtic Devour Series. This book is a sequel to The Beltane Choice and follows a minor character, Brennus from that book.

This was a very interesting look into Roman Britain which I found fascinating. I’ve read quite a bit about Roman Britain but I always love learning more, especially all the little details about day to day life then. The author has clearly done her research and I enjoyed the interesting details she included.

The story is historical with a lot of action and a bit of romance to keep the reader absorbed in the story. I thought it was a very entertaining read and I look forward to reading more in this series.

Huge thanks to Rachel from Rachel’s Random resources for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book. If you like historical fiction based in Roman Britain I think you will enjoy this book.

#BlogTour: The Paris Girl by Meg Evans @natmegevans @bookouture @nholten40 #TheParisGirl #bookouturebooksontour #hisfic

Book Synopsis:

But fate still has a final hand to play. One night in a bohemian café in Montparnasse, Tatiana discovers she’s been the unknowing plaything of the Sainte-Vierge family. Hidden beneath their genteel exteriors, Gerard and his brother have a secret darker side, and her darling fiancé will gladly ruin Tatiana’s life to save his own reputation.

As Tatiana’s situation becomes ever more desperate, she crosses paths with an unlikely guardian angel. He’s no fancy French nobleman, but Regan has seen the lengths to which a wicked man like Gerard will go. As the consequences of her disastrous engagement threaten to swallow Tatiana up, he might be the only one who can save her now…

From the USA Today bestselling author of TheMilliner’sSecretThe Paris Girl is a beautiful novel full of twists and turns, set against the breathtaking backdrop of 1920s Paris. Perfect for fans of Chanel Cleeton, Kathleen Tessaro and The Alice Network.

The Paris Girl is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

The Paris Girl is a gripping, intriguing piece of historical fiction which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Firstly I love the 1920s so I liked all the wonderful descriptions of life in Paris at that time. The author’s descriptions were beautifully vivid so that I felt that I was actually there experiencing the cafes and fashion houses alongside the characters. It was definitely an interesting time to be alive with the world still recovering from the loses of ww1 but entering an exciting era full of new possibilities, especially for women.

It took me a while to warm to the main character Tatiana as she came across as incredible spoilt lady who just wants everything given to her on a plate with little effort from herself. As we get to know more about her though we discover that there is a reason why she behaves like this and I did start to feel a grain of sympathy for her towards the end. Her job as a mannequin for a fashion house where she models the latest clothes was fascinating to read about as I never knew that that was a job before reading this book.

Overall I thought this was an intriguing read and I liked following the characters on their journey to discover the truth about what was going on. This was a sequel of sorts to the author’s previous book as there are some of the same characters, though the focus is on Tatiana this time which was interesting. It’s a bit of a slow burn but soon becomes a fast paced story of suspicion which was very exciting.

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of this author so I was very excited to be invited onto the blog tour for this book, especially as the invitation came from the author herself which is always nice. Once again the author has written a realistic, twisty thriller which was hard to put down.

The author perfectly captures the atmosphere of Freshers at university with the excitement of being somewhere new but the fear of not fitting in which reminded me of me of my own experience. The old college buildings added a slightly creepy edge to the story as there were lots of dark corners to hide in.

The four main characters were brilliantly evoked with all of them coming from very different backgrounds which gives plenty of reasons for disagreements between them. Each of the characters are holding back parts of themselves, as you’d expect in a new situation, which makes it hard for the reader to decide who to trust. I have to admit I didn’t really like any of the characters to start with but as I got to know them better and saw their interactions with each other I started to care about them. They really pull together when one of their group goes missing which was heartwarming to see.

There is plenty of intrigue to keep the readers interest with their quiet room mate Riku who doesn’t give much away about himself and the mysterious stranger who seems to be watching the characters just out of sight. Is he real or is he just a figment of their increasing paranoia? This as well as the characters interesting backstory combines to make a gripping read which I found hard to put down. I thoroughly review this enjoyable read to everyone!

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of this author’s books, so you can imagine my excitement to be invited onto the blog tour for The Lost Ten his latest book.

One of the things I’ve always loved about this author is his ability to make history come to life in a very interesting way. His descriptions are always so vivid that the reader feels like they are actually there watching everything unfold. I really felt at times that I could almost smell the blood and sweat on the battlefield.

I’ve read quite a bit about Roman Britain but the author always manages to find a new part that I didn’t know about, which makes his books very interesting. His perfect blend of fact and fiction helps make his stories very exciting, while his realistic characters makes the reader feel more invested in the story. I found this to be a very gripping read which I really enjoyed and I loved watching the story unfold. I can’t wait to read more from this talented author.

Violet is available in ebook now and in paperback on the 14th if November 2019. You can purchase or pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Violet was another realistic, and thoroughly gripping thriller from a very talented author.

One of the things I most like about this author is her ability to take a normal situation which probably happens quite regularly and give it a sinister edge. Violet is no exception to this as the author takes a normal backpacking scenario of meeting someone whilst travelling and realising that they aren’t quite who you thought.

The author does a great job of slow dripping the reader information as they slowly become aware that things, and Violet, aren’t quite what they seem. There were lots of revelations and twists about people’s past which kept me firmly on my toes and guessing about what was going on. I seriously could not put this down and found I had to keep reading as I desperately wanted to know what was going to happen next.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and she’s fast becoming one of my favourite authors. She writes some truly amazing stories and I’m very excited to read more from her in the future

A compelling, heart-racing thriller that will have you looking over your shoulder long after you turn the last page. The perfect read for fans of Louise Candlish and Adele Parks.

Through The Wall is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy of both using the link below.

My Review:

Through The Wall is a creepy, addictive thriller which will definitely have you wondering about your neighbours!

The story follows Lexi and Harriet two neighbours who at first glance seem very different from each other. Lexi is in a steady relationship but has a lot of stress in her life as she’s trying for a baby and trying to set up her own company. Harriet on the other hand is single and a bit of a party girl. I found it very interesting to learn more about the two woman and learn their backstory.

I did find Lexi a bit annoying after a while as her attempts to get pregnant did get a bit repetitive. Don’t get me wrong I did feel sorry for her as I know how emotional it can all be but it seemed to consume her and was all she seemed to talk about. Harriet was a much more interesting character especially as we start learning more about her past and her relationship with Luke. I found this part of the story very intriguing and I soon found myself reading Lexi’s part of the story quicker so I could get back to Harriet. It’s quite a poignant story and I found myself feeling a lot of sympathy for her.

This story starts off slow but soon becomes very gripping as we learn more about the characters. My opinion on the girls and whose side I was on changed frequently as the story progressed which I really enjoyed as it helped keep me guessing about what was going to happen.

This is one of the rare books that I’d love to see made into a film as I think it would work really well and I’d like to see it played out on screen. It’s definitely made me think about how little we actually know about what goes on behind closed doors and how things can be very different from how they seem.

Huge thanks to Sabah from Avon for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.

My Review:

As frequent readers of my blog will know, I’m a huge fan of this fantastic series. There is just something about it which is perfect to snuggle up with and lose yourself in for hours at a time.

The book opens with one of the most dramatic openers of the series which had me quickly thrown back into the war and the lives of the Shipyard girls. It’s impressive that the author is still managing to find fresh and exciting stories for this series with so many books under her belt, but Christmas With The Shipyard Girls is exactly that! New characters are introduced and new drama but it all flows beautifully, with the story never seeming forced. This made the book seem very realistic, making the reader feel more invested in the story.

It was so nice to be back with the Shipyard Girls who have stated to feel like old friends to me. Once again I loved the close relationship the girls enjoyed and how they helped each other through their darkest times. The way the book is written makes the reader feel like they are actually there watching everything unfold and I found myself wishing I was there as part of their group.

The author has cleverly blended real historical events into the story and by doing so has managed to vividly describe what life during the war must have been like. The constant fear of not knowing what will happen to their loved ones fighting and the nightly raids of the blitz is almost palpable at times allowing the reader to experience how things would have been themselves.

Overall I thought this was a gripping read which I couldn’t put down as I was so enjoying it. I’m so excited for the next installment of this fantastic series!

Huge thanks to Rachel from Arrow publishing for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book via Netgalley. If you are a fan of world war two fiction I highly recommend this series!

#BlogTour: Christmas At Pennington by Rachel Brimble @RachelBrimble @Aria_Fiction @rararesources #ChristmasAtPennington

Book Synopsis:

Gripping drama as Pennington’s department store prepares for a glittering Christmas in 1911, but a killer stalks the women of Bath.

Christmas sees Pennington’s at its most glorious, thronged with shoppers, its grand staircase and balcony adorned with holly, mistletoe, tinsel and lights. It should be the happiest time, but dramas are seething beneath the surface.

For Cornelia Culford, in charge of jewellery, a divorce hearing looms, where she could lose custody of her young sons to her overbearing and unfaithful husband.

For Stephen Gower, being head of security at Pennington’s is the perfect refuge from a tragic past at Scotland Yard. But soon the past will call him back, as Joseph Carter and Elizabeth Pennington beg him to help solve the murder of Joseph’s first wife, now that it seems as if the killer has struck again.

For Joseph and Elizabeth, their marriage depends on exorcising the past. But can it ever be laid to rest?

Christmas At Pennington’s is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of this fabulous series, so I was pleased to hear there was another addition to the series.

I loved the wonderful descriptions of the day to day world of the Pennington department store. The interactions between the staff and customers transported me to a bygone era whilst the descriptions of the store at Christmas with all their wonderful displays made me sigh with pleasure. It sounds like a great place to work or visit and I found myself wishing that I could see it for myself.

As always there is lots going on with the characters both in and around Pennington’s to keep the reader glued to the page. The author has cleverly blended romance, mystery and historical fact together which made for a very interesting read. The early 1900’s has always been one of my favourite era’s what with all its glitz, glamour and politics so I enjoyed learning even more about the era in this book. There are some great female characters whose story I enjoyed following and who perfectly evoked the struggle for equality with men which was happening at the time. I loved their strength and determination to succeed despite societies view of them, which was very shocking at times.

This is the third book on the Pennington series and whilst it can be read as a standalone I think a reader would find it even more enjoyable if they’d read the other books in the series first. If you are looking for a new historical series to snuggle up with this winter I strong recommend this one.

Book Synopsis:

1941, Nazi-occupied AmsterdamAn unforgettable story of love, hope and betrayal, and a testament to the courage of humanity in history’s darkest days.

University professor Josef Held has never recovered from the loss of his beloved wife – and has no intention of ever letting anyone new into his quiet, safe world. It is a world where the clock ticks steadily in his mathematics classroom, even as the sinister beat of Nazi soldiers’ boots threaten to drown it out.

Terrified, Josef tries to keep his eyes on the ground as Jews across the city are forced into ghettos. But then Michael Blum, his most reluctant, infuriating pupil, tells Josef Jews like him will no longer be allowed to study at all. Josef can ignore the situation no longer. And, after the shock of seeing his neighbour killed on his own doorstep, he offers Michael a place to hide in an impulsive act of courage.

Michael is everything Josef is not: spontaneous, poetic, and unafraid to love. Even though his passionate relationship with a Dutch girl is strictly forbidden – for he is Jewish, and she is not. Somehow, in the quiet gloom of the attic, Josef doesn’t mind things about Michael that annoyed him in the classroom, and a bond begins to grow.

Remembering the pain of his own heartbreak, Josef is desperate to give Michael and his girlfriend a chance. He must go on as if nothing has changed: teaching his class, bowing to the Nazis. Beneath the fear, a thrill of defiance begins to bloom. But then Michael becomes perilously ill, and there is no way to get him the help he desperately needs.

As the dark days of war continue, with danger and betrayal at every turn, no-one can be trusted. If Michael is to survive and get back to the woman he loves, it will be down to Josef – to find the hero inside himself, and do whatever it takes to keep Michael alive. Even if it means putting his own life on the line.

A heartbreakingly beautiful story about love, trust, and courage against the odds, perfect for fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Lilac Girls, and The Nightingale.

A View Across The Rooftops is available in ebook now for the fantastic price of 99p and in paperback on the 31st October 2019. You can purchase or pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

This is an emotional, thought provoking read which manages to be both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

The author does a great job of setting the scene in this book so the reader feels like they are actually there watching everything unfold. I loved the sense of community spirit that existed with the characters showing strength and determination despite living in abject fear. The characters showed a lot of courage as they were willing to risk their lives to try and help others. I can’t imagine living through such a scary time and the fact that some of these stories are true adds a lot of emotion to the story as the events on the book probably did happen.

The story progresses at a great pace and all the storylines came together very well. The author manage to mix historical facts with fiction to make a truly compelling read which held my attention. I enjoyed following all the characters personal stories whilst learning more about Amsterdam and the holocaust during the war.

This is unbelievably the author’s debut novel and I’m very excited to read more from her in the future. If you are a fan of historical fiction set in the second world war then you’ll love this book.
