#BlogTour: The Rapture by Claire McGlasson @laurennicoll_ @ClaireMcGlasson @FaberBooks #TheRapture

Book Synopsis:

Welcome to the Panacea Society, a terribly English cult…

Dilys is a devoted member of The Panacea Society, populated almost entirely by virtuous single ladies.

When she strikes up a friendship with Grace, a new recruit, God finally seems to be smiling upon her. The friends become closer as they wait for the Lord to return to their very own Garden of Eden, and Dilys feels she has found the right path at last.

But Dilys is wary of their leader’s zealotry and suspicious of those who would seem to influence her for their own ends. As her feelings for Grace bud and bloom, the Society around her begins to crumble. Faith is supplanted by doubt as both women come to question what is true and fear what is real.

The Rapture is available in hardback and ebook now. You can see a copy of both using the link below.

My Review:

The Rapture is a creepy, thought provoking and entertaining read which is based on real fascinating events. I always love when this happens as it’s so interesting to be able to look things up on the internet and look at picture to bring the story to life. Cults have always held a lot of intrigue for me as I’m fascinated to learn how they can influence people like they do. The Panacea Society was extra interesting as it was the first British cult I’d heard of and I couldn’t believe such a thing had happened on my home turf!

The story is told mainly from Grace and Dily’s point of view with the reader getting a fly on the wall look at cult life and the budding relationship between the two girls. I really enjoyed getting to know the two characters and watching their relationship flourish. I warmed to them immediately and wanted them to succeed and have a happy ending.

There is a lot of tension in the book mainly caused by the feeling of uncertainty of what the cult could do next. It was also quite a moving story as we follow the girls as they get to know who they are and discover love. I felt the story was truly compelling and loved going on the journey through the daily life of the cult.

This is the author’s debut novel and I’m excited to read more from her in the future. If you like fascinating books based on real events then you’ll love this book.

Huge thanks to Lauren from Faber & Faber for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.
