My Review:

Someone Is Lying is a fantastic, dark and thoroughly addictive thriller which I so enjoyed reading.

Firstly I loved the characters, even though they were a fairly unlikeable bunch individually, they made for very interesting reading when they were together in a group. They are all very different and it was fascinating to learn more about them and the role they played in the group. The author cleverly reveals the truth about them and the secrets they hide which is tantalisingly done and ensured that I kept reading as I wanted to find out what would happen. They all seemed quite true to life and I found myself smiling at some of the descriptions of them as I recognised a few from school pick up. My favourite was definitely Miranda as she reminded me of myself. I loved some of the parenting hacks that she does to get by which often had me laughing out loud

The reader is kept guessing as to who the murderer was and the author cleverly casts doubt on each character throughout the book as we learn more about them. I was gripped from the beginning with the short chapters and the multiple points of view making for very interesting, fast reading. I found myself hiding away from the children trying to read just one more chapter!

The podcast gives the story a modern twist and further helped make the story seem realistic. I enjoyed the way it helped add to the tension and the parts where the group sit down to listen together were some of my favourite as I felt they were quite telling. They helped me feel quite involved in the story and I felt like I was actually there listening along with them.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Headline for my copy of this book. If you like gripping, addictive thrillers featuring some fabulous characters then you’ll love this book!

About The Author:

Jenny lives in Shropshire where she grew up dreaming that one day she would get paid for making up stories. She is an avid reader and can mostly be found with her head in a book or hunting Pokemon with her son, otherwise you can get her on Twitter @JennyBlackhurst or Facebook. Her favourite film is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, but if her children ask it’s definitely Moana.

  1. I always like when an author is able to get me to love a book when I do not like the characters. Nice review Joanna, this one sounds like a good one.
