Book Synopsis:

In Sheila O’Flanagan’s stunning new novel, two women face up to shocking truths about the men they’ve loved – and start to make their own decisions about what to do next…

‘One of my favourite authors’ Marian Keyes

Deira isn’t the kind of woman to steal a car. Or drive to France alone with no plan. But then, Deira didn’t expect to be single. Or to suddenly realise that the only way she can get the one thing she wants most is to start breaking every rule she lives by.

Grace has been sent on a journey by her late husband, Ken. She doesn’t really want to be on it but she’s following his instructions, as always. She can only hope that the trip will help her to forgive him. And then – finally – she’ll be able to let him go.

Brought together by unexpected circumstances, Grace and Deira find that it’s easier to share secrets with a stranger, especially in the shimmering sunny countryside of Spain and France. But they soon find that there’s no escaping the truth, whether you’re running away from it or racing towards it . . .

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of this author and her fantastic, addictive books which are always perfect for holidays. This book was a complete joy to read as it immediately drew me into the story and kept my attention until the end.

Firstly Grace and Deira’s developing friendship was just amazing to follow throughout the book. I so enjoyed watching it develop from strangers to close friends. Once again the author has chosen to write about mature characters which was really interesting as they bring a lot more life experiences into the story. This was no exception as both women have experienced heartache in different forms which initially helps bond the two together. I found I warmed to both quickly and wanted to keep reading to find out how everything would end for them.

The wonderful descriptions of France and Spain were really vivid which made me feel like I was actually there experiencing everything alongside the characters. The treasure hunt was a fantastic addition to the story and helped create some memorable moments between the two woman. I would love to visit some of the places they did in the near future.

Overall I thought this was a brilliant read that I sailed through in a few days. There were some cringey moments along with some quite emotional ones which made the story seem more realistic and made me feel more invested in the story.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Headline for my copy of this book. If you like addictive, uplifting reads then you’ll love this book!
