#BlogTour: The Garden Of Forgotten Wishes by Trisha Ashley @trishaashley @TransworldBooks @RandomTTours #GardenOfForgottenWishes #TrishaAshley #RandomThingsTours

Book Synopsis:

The brilliant new novel from Top Five Sunday Times bestselling author Trisha Ashley

All Marnie wants is somewhere to call home. Mourning lost years spent in a marriage that has finally come to an end, she needs a fresh start and time to heal. Things she hopes to find in the rural west Lancashire village her mother always told her about.

With nothing but her two green thumbs, Marnie takes a job as a gardener, which comes with a little cottage to make her own. The garden is beautiful – filled with roses, lavender and honeysuckle – and only a little rough around the edges. Which is more than can be said for her next-door neighbour, Ned Mars.

Marnie remembers Ned from her college days but he’s far from the untroubled man she once knew. A recent relationship has left him with a heart as bruised as her own.

Can a summer spent gardening help them recapture the forgotten dreams they’ve let get away?

The Garden Of Forgotten Wishes is available in ebook and hardback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

This was a wonderful book of pure escapism which I absolutely loved as restoring a garden has always been a bit of a dream of mine!

I absolutely loved the descriptions of the garden which made me feel I was actually there and able to smell all the beautiful flowers. I found myself wishing I could actually visit it as it sounded like a amazing place to just relax. The information on how to restore a garden and what you needed to do was very interesting and I can’t wait to work on my own garden soon.

Marnie was a fantastic main character who I warmed to quickly as her little quirky ways and sayings were very amusing. The conversations she had with her cat Casper were particularly cute and made me smile as I read them. The author cleverly includes small references to characters and places from her other books which, as a huge fan, I found particularly nice as it made me feel more included into the story.

Overall I absolutely loved this wonderful book and found myself trying to make the book last a bit longer as I really didn’t want it to end.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Transworld for my copy of this book via Netgalley.

#BlogTour: The Woman Who Ran Away by Sheila O’Flannery @sheilaoflanagan @headlinepg @RandomTTours #TheWomanWhoRan #SheilaOFlanagan #RandomThingsTours

Book Synopsis:

In Sheila O’Flanagan’s stunning new novel, two women face up to shocking truths about the men they’ve loved – and start to make their own decisions about what to do next…

‘One of my favourite authors’ Marian Keyes

Deira isn’t the kind of woman to steal a car. Or drive to France alone with no plan. But then, Deira didn’t expect to be single. Or to suddenly realise that the only way she can get the one thing she wants most is to start breaking every rule she lives by.

Grace has been sent on a journey by her late husband, Ken. She doesn’t really want to be on it but she’s following his instructions, as always. She can only hope that the trip will help her to forgive him. And then – finally – she’ll be able to let him go.

Brought together by unexpected circumstances, Grace and Deira find that it’s easier to share secrets with a stranger, especially in the shimmering sunny countryside of Spain and France. But they soon find that there’s no escaping the truth, whether you’re running away from it or racing towards it . . .

The Woman Who Ran is available in ebook and hardback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of this author and her fantastic, addictive books which are always perfect for holidays. This book was a complete joy to read as it immediately drew me into the story and kept my attention until the end.

Firstly Grace and Deira’s developing friendship was just amazing to follow throughout the book. I so enjoyed watching it develop from strangers to close friends. Once again the author has chosen to write about mature characters which was really interesting as they bring a lot more life experiences into the story. This was no exception as both women have experienced heartache in different forms which initially helps bond the two together. I found I warmed to both quickly and wanted to keep reading to find out how everything would end for them.

The wonderful descriptions of France and Spain were really vivid which made me feel like I was actually there experiencing everything alongside the characters. The treasure hunt was a fantastic addition to the story and helped create some memorable moments between the two woman. I would love to visit some of the places they did in the near future.

Overall I thought this was a brilliant read that I sailed through in a few days. There were some cringey moments along with some quite emotional ones which made the story seem more realistic and made me feel more invested in the story.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Headline for my copy of this book. If you like addictive, uplifting reads then you’ll love this book!

The Moscow Whisper is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy of both using the link below.

My Review:

The Moscow Whisper was another fantastic, thrilling read from this talented author. It had a bit of a realistic edge to it as I can well imagine this story happening in the current climate.

Firstly I loved the main character Sean Richardson who was an incredibly likeable though flawed character. Due to his name I kept picturing him as the comedian (yes I got the name wrong) which made me feel quite sympathetic towards him. .I found I really wanted to keep reading to find out if he works everything out and if he was ok.

The author manages to weave together political events with personal ones in a very effective way. It was really interesting to follow the story and all the twists that the story takes which kept me guessing until the end. The tension in the book is slowly increased until it becomes almost unbearable and I found myself turning the pages faster towards the end. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Huge thanks to Emma from Damp Pebbles Tours for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book. If you lije action packed, page turners that keep you guessing then you’ll love this book!

Written In Blood is available in hardback and ebook now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Written In Blood is another fantastic addition to the Hunter Series which in my opinion keeps getting better and better. It’s going to be a hard book to review as I don’t want to give anything away.

Firstly I’m a huge fan of this series and as such always leave them until I know I have lots of free time as I know how hard they are to put down. This book was no exception and I soon found myself drawn into the dark storyline. There are so many twists and seemingly non stop developments that I was soon completely gripped and found myself reading faster and faster as the story went on.

As with all this author’s stories the descriptions of the murders is quite violent and graphic which might not be to everyone’s taste. Most of the descriptions appear in the form of diary entries however which makes them fairly easy to skip. The descriptions are in keeping with the story and help add to the atmosphere of the story, frequently making a chill go down my spine. I always love it when books make me feel this way so this was hugely enjoyable to read.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and found it incredibly difficult to put down. It was great to be back with Hunter again and to see the realistic way he solves a case. I am very excited to see what the author comes up with next.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Simon and Schuster for my copy of this book via Netgalley.

Photographing Kate is available in ebook now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Photographing Kate is a romantic, feel good book that is the third book in the Moonshire Bay series

Firstly I would love to live in Moonshire Bay as it sounds like a fabulous town. The wonderful descriptions of everything on offer there from the beach, the little coffee shop and the fantastic sounding boutiques sounded perfect. I would love to have the chance to spend the day there having a browse.

Kate was a very interesting main character who I warmed to quickly. I felt very sorry for everything she’d been through and enjoyed following her as she made a new start. She has a fantastic support network that I loved reading about and which made me feel quite jealous that I didn’t have. I found I wanted to keep reading to find out how everything goes for her.

Overall I found this a very pleasant, easy read which was great to lose myself in. It’s a book that often made me smile and left me with a lovely contented feeling on finishing it. This was the first book I’ve read in the series and whilst it could probably be read as a standalone it is probably best to read them in order.

Huge thanks to Emma from Damp Pebbles Tours for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.

I started writing ten years ago, and it was always my intent and desire to write romance. However, in my first book, someone died. It just happened and turned the romance into a mystery.

Twenty-some books later, and I decided enough was enough. I was going to do what I’d initially set out to do at the start of my writing journey. Write a book where no one died (It’s not as easy as you think).

I can’t tell you how much fun I had writing Finding Rachel and the three others set in the small town of Moonshire Bay. Finding Rachel is out now and Ari’s Adventure will release in spring of 2020 with the third book set to follow in the early summer of 2020.

How did I come up with my pen name? Elle for the “L” in Laina and Sweet was my grandfather’s last name. I wanted something that had a story. I originally wanted to call myself LuluBell after a pet cow I once had, but the family shot that one down.

#BlogTour: Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce @DoubledayUK @alisonbarrow @annecater #MissBenson #RachelJoyce #RandomThingsTours

Book Synopsis:

It is 1950. In a devastating moment of clarity, Margery Benson abandons her dead-end job and advertises for an assistant to accompany her on an expedition. She is going to travel to the other side of the world to search for a beetle that may or may not exist.
Enid Pretty, in her unlikely pink travel suit, is not the companion Margery had in mind. And yet together they will be drawn into an adventure that will exceed every expectation. They will risk everything, break all the rules, and at the top of a red mountain, discover their best selves.

This is a story that is less about what can be found than the belief it might be found; it is an intoxicating adventure story but it is also about what it means to be a woman and a tender exploration of a friendship that defies all boundaries.

Miss Benson’s Beetle is available in hardback and ebook on the 23rd July 2020. You can pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Miss Benson’s Beetle is a quirky, emotional story of friendship which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Rachel Joyce has a fabulous way if creating relatable characters that are easy to fall in love with and this book was no exception. I loved Marjery and felt a lot of sympathy for her and the incident whilst teaching as I too suffered a few humiliating incidents whilst teacher training. I really wished I could give her a hug at times and quickly got behind her as I wanted her to so well. The contrast between her and Enid was brilliant and I so enjoyed watching their friendship blossom.

The book takes us on a rollercoaster adventure of joy and sadness as we follow the girls on their journey. They definitely have a few challenges along the way but it made me smile to see how well they coped with everything. It was great to see the two girls change throughout the book and the interactions between was quite funny to witness at times. I felt quite sad to finish the book and leave them behind.

One Step Behind is available in ebook now and in paperback on the 3rd September 2020. You can purchase or pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

One Step Behind is a cleverly written and plotted psychological thriller which I flew through in a couple of days. It’s going to be a difficult book to review as I don’t want to give anything away.

Firstly the thing I most enjoy about this author is her ability to make her books seen so realistic that the reader feels they are living the situation alongside the characters. This book is no exception and the scenes describing the stalking were very chilling and frightening because of this. I found myself feeling very sorry for Jenna and all that she is experiencing. I found myself feeling quite glad that I haven’t been in the same situation.

The story is told from the point of view of Rachel but also from a mysterious lady called Sophie which I found very intriguing. I found myself wanting to keep reading to find out how she fitted into the story. The writing all seems to point in one direction which made me immediately suspicious that there was more to the story then met the eye.

I thought this was a really fast paced book which had lots of twists that kept me guessing. The tension is slowly increased until it becomes almost unbearable. I found myself turning the pages faster and faster as the book went on as I desperately wanted to find out what would happen. The ending was especially brilliant and I loved the way the storylines merged to make a very satisfying ending.

Tennis Lessons is available in ebook and hardback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Tennis Lessons is a beautifully written, poignant coming of age story which will stay with me for a long time.

The thing that most makes this book is the fantastic narrator who you just can’t help falling in love with. She’s such a memorable character who after a promising start is having a bit of a hard time of things as she’s being bullied at school and has a tricky home life. She quite a tough girl though and is surprisingly forgiving which makes her incredibly endearing.

The style of the book is a little unusual as it’s told in the second person. It took me a little while to get used to but once I did it made perfect sense to me as I felt it perfectly represented the narrator’s unusual, quirky personality which I thought was very clever.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and following the narrator on her journey. It’s a bit of a roller coaster ride at times with some of the teenage scenes being frighteningly realistic and I often wished I could reach into the book and give the narrator a hug. The ending was perhaps not the happy ever after ending I was hoping for but it was a realistic one and it was great to see how much she had grown.

Book Synopsis:

Five days in the history of a small rural town, visited and infected by darkness, are recounted by Evil itself. A stunning high-concept thriller from the bestselling author of Good Samaritans and Nothing Important Happened Today.

‘Cements Carver as one of the most exciting authors in Britain. After this, he’ll have his own cult following’ Daily Express

________________

It’s a small story. A small town with small lives that you would never have heard about if none of this had happened.

Hinton Hollow. Population 5,120.

Little Henry Wallace was eight years old and one hundred miles from home before anyone talked to him. His mother placed him on a train with a label around his neck, asking for him to be kept safe for a week, kept away from Hinton Hollow.

Because something was coming.

Narrated by Evil itself, Hinton Hollow Death Trip recounts five days in the history of this small rural town, when darkness paid a visit and infected its residents. A visit that made them act in unnatural ways. Prodding at their insecurities. Nudging at their secrets and desires. Coaxing out the malevolence suppressed within them. Showing their true selves.

Making them cheat.
Making them steal.
Making them kill.

Detective Sergeant Pace had returned to his childhood home. To escape the things he had done in the city. To go back to something simple. But he was not alone. Evil had a plan.

Hinton Hollow Death Trip is available in ebook and in paperback on the 13th August 2020. You can purchase or pre-order your copy of the link below.

My Review:

Will Carver is one of those writers that always manages to blow me away with his gripping and unique storylines. His imagination is always amazing and I really enjoy living in his head for a little while. This book was no exception and I found I really enjoyed my trip to Hinton Hollow which is definitely an intriguing place to live.

The author always manages to include a thought provoking element into his stories which keep you thinking long after you’ve finished reading. In this book the author’s takes the reader through an exploration of evil and what forms it can take. The book is actually narrated by evil who’s just an ordinary guy on earth which was an interesting concept.

This was a fast paced book which I flew through in a few days as I was so enjoying the story. There were some fabulously diverse characters, some that I really liked and others that I loved to hate. My favourite character was actually evil, who was a surprisingly likeable guy. The book is quite a dark, chilling one which is full of black humour which won’t be to everyone’s taste but if you enjoy unique and gripping reads you shouldn’t definitely give this book a try.

Huge thank to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Orenda for my copy of this book.

#BlogTour: Darkness Comes by John Lynch @jlynchauthor @RandomTTours #DarknessComes #JohnLynch #RandomThingsTours

Book Synopsis:

Ted Bailey. Drug dealer. Arms salesman. Killer. There’s no way his soul can survive death. Is there?
But that decision is for God to make, not you. And what God values is not what they taught you in Sunday School.

Darkness Comes is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Darkness Comes is a very clever, compelling read that is very thought provoking. It’s one of those reads which makes you think about it long after you’ve finished reading.

Firstly I really enjoyed how the author let’s the reader examine Ted’s life through the court case where he is on trial. Ted should be an extremely unlikeable character as he’s done some awful stuff but somehow the author manages to make the reader feel sympathy for him which I thought was very clever. I actually found myself hoping that thing turned out ok for him and he would get off the charges.

Through the court case the author takes the reader on a fascinating exploration about what is right and wrong. Is it still wrong if you do something bad for the right reasons or vice versa. Is it ever ok to break the rules? This is all things which are explored throughout the book and is something that I have continued to think about long after reading.

Overall I really enjoyed this entertaining read with some interesting, flawed characters who I quickly grew fond of. This book is really well written with an unusual storyline which makes it an easy read. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I would definitely be there in reading more from this author.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.

About The Author:

For 40+ years I was an international salesman; I’ve lived and worked on every continent except Antarctica. I was always a writer, though; the very first writing success I remember was standing on the stage of Benton Park Primary School in Newcastle upon Tyne at the age of ten, reading to the assembled school and parents a story I had written. It still gives me pleasure to know that one of my fellow pupils — a man I have dinner with once a year when I go back to Newcastle — was nagged all the way home that afternoon by his mother demanding, “Why can’t you write like John Lynch?” I sold my first freelance piece to Good Housekeeping Magazine in 1989 and that was a good year for me — it was also when I sold my first book to a publisher and my first short story to BBC Radio. (It’s called Bird and you can listen to it on my blog). My mother, the daughter of a Durham miner who first went down the pit when he was 12 years old, was proud that her son had a story on the radio — but even prouder that it was read by Clarrie Grundy from the long-running radio serial, The Archers. I’ve ghost written about 50 books that have been published in other people’s names (you’ll find a video about that on my Author Page) as well as writing my own work. As me, I write under two names: As R J Lynch for a series of five books set in County Durham (with one in the revolutionary American colonies) in the 1760s. As John Lynch for contemporary fiction and two non-fiction books.
