My Review:

The Moscow Whisper was another fantastic, thrilling read from this talented author. It had a bit of a realistic edge to it as I can well imagine this story happening in the current climate.

Firstly I loved the main character Sean Richardson who was an incredibly likeable though flawed character. Due to his name I kept picturing him as the comedian (yes I got the name wrong) which made me feel quite sympathetic towards him. .I found I really wanted to keep reading to find out if he works everything out and if he was ok.

The author manages to weave together political events with personal ones in a very effective way. It was really interesting to follow the story and all the twists that the story takes which kept me guessing until the end. The tension in the book is slowly increased until it becomes almost unbearable and I found myself turning the pages faster towards the end. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I started climbing at 13, survived being lost in Snowdonia at 14, nearly drowned at 15, and then joined the Army at 16. Risk and adventure was built into my DNA and I feel very fortunate to have served the majority of my working career as an intelligence officer within Defence Intelligence, and as an explosive ordnance disposal officer and military surveyor within the Corps of Royal Engineers. I feel privileged to have served for twenty-eight years in the British Army as a soldier and officer, rising through the ranks to complete my service as a major. I served across the globe on numerous military operations as well as extensive travel and adventure on many major mountaineering and exploration expeditions that I led or was involved in. I was awarded the Geographic Medal by the Royal Geographical Society for mountain exploration in 2003 and served on the screening committee of the Mount Everest Foundation charity for many years. It was humbling after so many years of service when I was awarded the MBE for services to counter-terrorism in 2007. My Review:

Written In Blood is another fantastic addition to the Hunter Series which in my opinion keeps getting better and better. It’s going to be a hard book to review as I don’t want to give anything away.

Firstly I’m a huge fan of this series and as such always leave them until I know I have lots of free time as I know how hard they are to put down. This book was no exception and I soon found myself drawn into the dark storyline. There are so many twists and seemingly non stop developments that I was soon completely gripped and found myself reading faster and faster as the story went on.

As with all this author’s stories the descriptions of the murders is quite violent and graphic which might not be to everyone’s taste. Most of the descriptions appear in the form of diary entries however which makes them fairly easy to skip. The descriptions are in keeping with the story and help add to the atmosphere of the story, frequently making a chill go down my spine. I always love it when books make me feel this way so this was hugely enjoyable to read.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and found it incredibly difficult to put down. It was great to be back with Hunter again and to see the realistic way he solves a case. I am very excited to see what the author comes up with next.

About The Author:

I was born in Brasilia, Brazil where I spent my childhood and teenage years. After graduating from high school, I moved to the USA where I studied psychology with specialization in criminal behaviour. During my University years I held a variety of odd jobs, ranging from flipping burgers to being part of an all male exotic dancing group. I worked as a criminal psychologist for several years, during which I interviewed and worked on over one hundred cases involving serial killers, murderers and serious offenders, before moving to Los Angeles, where I swapped the suits and briefcases for ripped jeans, bandanas and an electric guitar. After a spell playing for several well known glam rock bands, I decided to try my luck in London, where I was fortunate enough to have played for a number of famous artists. My Review:

Photographing Kate is a romantic, feel good book that is the third book in the Moonshire Bay series

Firstly I would love to live in Moonshire Bay as it sounds like a fabulous town. The wonderful descriptions of everything on offer there from the beach, the little coffee shop and the fantastic sounding boutiques sounded perfect. I would love to have the chance to spend the day there having a browse.

Kate was a very interesting main character who I warmed to quickly. I felt very sorry for everything she’d been through and enjoyed following her as she made a new start. She has a fantastic support network that I loved reading about and which made me feel quite jealous that I didn’t have. I found I wanted to keep reading to find out how everything goes for her.

Overall I found this a very pleasant, easy read which was great to lose myself in. It’s a book that often made me smile and left me with a lovely contented feeling on finishing it. This was the first book I’ve read in the series and whilst it could probably be read as a standalone it is probably best to read them in order.

Elle Sweet is the pen name of mystery author Laina Turner.

I started writing ten years ago, and it was always my intent and desire to write romance. However, in my first book, someone died. It just happened and turned the romance into a mystery.

Twenty-some books later, and I decided enough was enough. I was going to do what I’d initially set out to do at the start of my writing journey. Write a book where no one died (It’s not as easy as you think).

My Review:

One Step Behind is a cleverly written and plotted psychological thriller which I flew through in a couple of days. It’s going to be a difficult book to review as I don’t want to give anything away.

Firstly the thing I most enjoy about this author is her ability to make her books seen so realistic that the reader feels they are living the situation alongside the characters. This book is no exception and the scenes describing the stalking were very chilling and frightening because of this. I found myself feeling very sorry for Jenna and all that she is experiencing. I found myself feeling quite glad that I haven’t been in the same situation.

The story is told from the point of view of Rachel but also from a mysterious lady called Sophie which I found very intriguing. I found myself wanting to keep reading to find out how she fitted into the story. The writing all seems to point in one direction which made me immediately suspicious that there was more to the story then met the eye.

I thought this was a really fast paced book which had lots of twists that kept me guessing. The tension is slowly increased until it becomes almost unbearable. I found myself turning the pages faster and faster as the book went on as I desperately wanted to find out what would happen. The ending was especially brilliant and I loved the way the storylines merged to make a very satisfying ending.

My Review:

Tennis Lessons is a beautifully written, poignant coming of age story which will stay with me for a long time.

The thing that most makes this book is the fantastic narrator who you just can’t help falling in love with. She’s such a memorable character who after a promising start is having a bit of a hard time of things as she’s being bullied at school and has a tricky home life. She quite a tough girl though and is surprisingly forgiving which makes her incredibly endearing.

The style of the book is a little unusual as it’s told in the second person. It took me a little while to get used to but once I did it made perfect sense to me as I felt it perfectly represented the narrator’s unusual, quirky personality which I thought was very clever.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and following the narrator on her journey. It’s a bit of a roller coaster ride at times with some of the teenage scenes being frighteningly realistic and I often wished I could reach into the book and give the narrator a hug. The ending was perhaps not the happy ever after ending I was hoping for but it was a realistic one and it was great to see how much she had grown.

My Review:

Darkness Comes is a very clever, compelling read that is very thought provoking. It’s one of those reads which makes you think about it long after you’ve finished reading.

Firstly I really enjoyed how the author let’s the reader examine Ted’s life through the court case where he is on trial. Ted should be an extremely unlikeable character as he’s done some awful stuff but somehow the author manages to make the reader feel sympathy for him which I thought was very clever. I actually found myself hoping that thing turned out ok for him and he would get off the charges.

Through the court case the author takes the reader on a fascinating exploration about what is right and wrong. Is it still wrong if you do something bad for the right reasons or vice versa. Is it ever ok to break the rules? This is all things which are explored throughout the book and is something that I have continued to think about long after reading.

Overall I really enjoyed this entertaining read with some interesting, flawed characters who I quickly grew fond of. This book is really well written with an unusual storyline which makes it an easy read. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I would definitely be there in reading more from this author.

For 40+ years I was an international salesman; I’ve lived and worked on every continent except Antarctica. I was always a writer, though; the very first writing success I remember was standing on the stage of Benton Park Primary School in Newcastle upon Tyne at the age of ten, reading to the assembled school and parents a story I had written. It still gives me pleasure to know that one of my fellow pupils — a man I have dinner with once a year when I go back to Newcastle — was nagged all the way home that afternoon by his mother demanding, “Why can’t you write like John Lynch?” I sold my first freelance piece to Good Housekeeping Magazine in 1989 and that was a good year for me — it was also when I sold my first book to a publisher and my first short story to BBC Radio. (It’s called Bird and you can listen to it on my blog). My mother, the daughter of a Durham miner who first went down the pit when he was 12 years old, was proud that her son had a story on the radio — but even prouder that it was read by Clarrie Grundy from the long-running radio serial, The Archers. I’ve ghost written about 50 books that have been published in other people’s names (you’ll find a video about that on my Author Page) as well as writing my own work. As me, I write under two names: As R J Lynch for a series of five books set in County Durham (with one in the revolutionary American colonies) in the 1760s.
