How To Disappear is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

How To Disappear is a tense, twisty and emotional thriller which I think is the author’s best.

The story follows Lauren and Zara as they join the witness protection program and start a new life. I found it very interesting to learn more about the program, especially the impact it can have on a person. I’ve never really thought about it before but it must be really hard to leave behind your old life and start anew. The emotions involved in this are brilliantly described by the author so that the reader becomes very sympathetic to what they are going through. I often found myself tearing up as I read.

Zara was a very interesting main character who I really enjoyed following through the book. She’s a surprisingly thoughtful teenager and I quickly warmed to her. In a lot of ways I felt that Lauren and her personalities were reversed and Lauren should have been acting the way Zara was.

The author does a great job of increasing the tension in the book until it is almost unbearable. I soon found myself flying through the pages as I desperately wanted to find out what was going to happen next. There were lots of twists and surprises that kept me guessing and further ensured I was glued to the page. The ending was just amazing and a fantastic way to end the book.

Huge thanks to Sriya from Michael St Joseph for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.

My Review:

I’m a big fan of historical fiction especially if it involves photography or spirituality so this book instantly appealed to me. Once again the author has written a truly wonderful, engaging read which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Firstly the author has obviously done her research as she really brings the 1800s to life in this book. I loved all of the fantastic historical detail about what society was like back then along with societies attitudes toward certain things. It was really interesting to see them all come into play throughout the story and to see how the characters dealt with them. The history of photography was also very fascinating and I liked learning more about the spiritual beliefs back then which seemed to contrast with the strict religious beliefs of the time.

The story is told in two timelines one following Violet as she follows her passion for photography the other following Jonah and what happened during his time in India. I must admit to liking Violets story a little more due to the subject matter but Jonah’s story of life in India was still very interesting. I liked following the two stories to see what would happen to the characters and how the two storylines would merge.

Although initially a bit of a slow burner I did have an inkling l would like this book from the first few pages, as I instantly warmed to Violet. The pace in the book slowly increases and I soon found myself completely absorbed into the story and the characters lives. I was sorry to finish the book and leave everything behind.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Leanne from Orion for my copy of this book. If you like Sarah Waters I think you’ll like this book as I felt they were similar.

The Day She Came Back is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of this author’s books as they are always fabulously addictive reads which I know I’ll love. This book was no exception as once again the author has written a beautiful book which manages to be both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. In a lot of ways this story reads as a coming of age story as we follow Victoria as she deals with not only the death of her beloved grandmother but also the realisation that she’s been lied to all her life.

One of the things I most love about this author is her ability to create relatable characters that are easy to fall in love with. I absolutely adored Victoria and enjoyed following her on her emotional journey. She seemed so real to me that I felt she was an actual friend and therefore felt everything she was going through much more actuely. At times I actually felt like I was experiencing the events myself as the author had described them so vividly.

Overall, as you can probably tell, I loved this book and quickly found myself swept away in the story. It’s one of those books which is hard to put down as I really wanted to find out what was going to happen next. It was the perfect book to read over lockdown as it helped distract me from my normal everyday life.

#BlogTour: Lost by Leona Deakin @LeonaDeakin1 @TransworldBooks @RandomTTours #Lost #LeonaDeakin #RandomThingsTours #DrBloom

Book Synopsis:

HOW CAN YOU SOLVE A CRIME IF YOU CAN’T REMEMBER THE CLUES?

There is an explosion at a military ball. The casualties are rushed to hospital in eight ambulances, but only seven vehicles arrive. Captain Harry Peterson is missing.

His girlfriend calls upon her old friend Dr Augusta Bloom to support the investigation. But no one can work out if there is a connection between the bomb and the disappearance.

When Harry is eventually discovered three days later, they hope he holds the answers to their questions. But he can’t remember a single thing.

Without any clues, will Dr Bloom find herself lost in this puzzle too?

Lost is available in ebook now and in paperback on the 29th October 2020. You can purchase or pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

Lost is the follow up to Gone which was the author’s debut novel. It’s a very entertaining, addictive and and thrilling read which was hugely enjoyable.

The story line is very intriguing as I have always enjoyed stories around memory loss, maybe because it is such a scary concept for me. The lack of clues made it a harder case for Dr Bloom to solve and meant it was more fun to read as I tried to work out what was going on.

It was great to be back with Dr Bloom and Marcus, especially as it gave them the chance to fix everything from the last book. I’ve always thought they work well together so it was good to see them resolve their differences. Seraphine was an interesting addition to the story, especially as I wasn’t entirely sure I trusted her. She seemed to divide Dr Blooms and Marcus’s opinions and made me wonder if the author was setting up conflict for the future.

The story switches back and forth between when Harry and Karene first meet and the present day when Karene is receiving odd emails. The author keeps us in suspense about the link between these times until the end which I always enjoy. The atmosphere in the book slowly increases until it becomes very intense and made the book hard to put down. My only slight quibble about this book is that at times I felt it was perhaps a little unrealistic but I actually think the author meant this and it didn’t affect my overall enjoyment of this book which I will be recommending to others.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Transworld for my copy of this book.

#BlogTour: The Girl From Widow Hill by Megan Miranda @MeganLMiranda @CorvusBooks @RandomTTours #TheGirlFromWidowHills #MeganMiranda #RandomThingsTours

Book Synopsis:

Everyone knows the story of the girl from Widow Hills.

When Arden Maynor was six years old, she was swept away in terrifying storm and went missing for days. Against all odds, she was found alive, clinging to a storm drain. A living miracle. Arden’s mother wrote a book, and fame followed. But so did fans, creeps and stalkers. It was all too much, and as soon as she was old enough, Arden changed her name and left Widow Hills behind.

Now, a young woman living hundreds of miles away, Arden is known as Olivia. With the twentieth anniversary of her rescue looming, media interest in the girl who survived is increasing. Where is she now? The stress brings back the night terrors of Olivia’s youth. Often, she finds herself out of bed in the middle of the night, sometimes outside her home, even streets away. Then one evening she jolts awake in her yard, with the corpse of a man at her feet.

The girl from Widow Hills is about to become the centre of the story, once again.

The Girl From Widow Hill is available in ebook and hardback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

This was a beautifully written, addictive story which I really enjoyed. I’ve been a fan of this author for a while and in my opinion she keeps getting better and better.

This story gripped me from the start when the reader is first introduced to the intriguing storyline concerning Arden’s disappearence. I found myself quickly intrigued as to what it would have been like to be trapped in such a way and how utterly terrifying it would have been. Having read a few of the author’s books I also wondered if everything has actually happened as Olivia/ Arden remembered or if things weren’t quite as they seemed. All of this helped ensure I was soon thoroughly engrossed in the book as I wanted to find out what would happen and if I was right.

Olivia is a very sympathetic character who I quickly warmed to, especially when I realised how affected by the incident she still was. I felt sorry for her as she seemed to have cut herself off from the world in her remote cabin and hardly has any friends to talk to. I found the fact that she had no memories of the incident very interesting and I slowly felt more concerned about her as I read.

This book was a bit if a slow burner, with the pace gradually increasing throughout the book as the investigation continues. The author manages to blend past and present together really well, using interesting extracts from various sources as snippets from when Arden originally disappeared. There were lots of twists and turns which kept me guessing, along with a few false leads which had me unable to put the book down towards the end.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Corvus for my copy of this book.

All Fall Down is available in ebook and hardback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

This was the first book I’ve read by this author, though I’ve heard lots of great things, so I was very excited to start this book.

This book gripped me from the first few pages as I found myself drawn into the story and the chilling case DI Grace finds herself in. It’s definitely an intriguing case with lots happening that made me keep reading as I had to know how it would be resolved. The situation seemed very realistic which helped add a chill factor to the book as I could clearly envision what was happening.

Helen was an interesting and very relatable main character who felt like someone I might know. She’s definitely been through some tough times and I loved how tough and determined she was. She has an interesting way of dealing with the stress though which was interesting and I liked that she had that slight flaw as otherwise she might have been too perfect.

Overall I really enjoyed this scary, read which kept me guessing throughout as to what was happening which is always fun. The pace was quite fast and made the book hard to put down. I kept promising myself I’d only read a bit more and look up two hours later. I can’t wait to read more from this author now.

‘Awfully opinionated for a girl’ is what they call Hillary as she grows up in her Chicago suburb.

How might things have turned out for them, for America, for the world itself, if Hillary Rodham had really turned down Bill Clinton?

With her sharp but always compassionate eye, Sittenfeld explores the loneliness, moral ambivalence and iron determination that characterise the quest for high office, as well as the painful compromises demanded of female ambition in a world ruled by men.

Rodham is available in ebook now and in hardback on the 9th July 2020. You can purchase or pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

I absolutely loved American Wife by this author so I was really excited to read this book, especially as it once again offered an interesting insight into American politics. It’s an amazing, engaging read which I found hard to put down.

Firstly the author has obviously done her research and I found it fascinating to learn more about Hilary. We get taken through her early life and discover more about the women behind the politics in a very interesting way. The author has cleverly written the story so that it feels very real and it’s easy to believe at times that the alternative life she’s writing about could have happened.

Hilary is definitely an interesting woman who I struggled to like at times. She was quite annoying at times and seemed to want people to not like her. The author has managed to mix in some of Hilary’s known character flaws so I always felt like I was reading about a real person.

Overall I thought this was a well written, emotional story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was perhaps a little detailed in places when it came to the political side of things but not enough to stop me enjoying the book. I liked the idea of the alternative life for her and found myself wishing that was the reality for her.

#BlogTour: My Mummy Is A Monster by Natalie Reeves Billing @BillingReeves @RandomTTours #MyMummyIsAMonster #NatalieReevesBilling #RandomThingsTours

Book Synopsis:

The Monstrous Me series is a split perspective book looking at situations from another point of view to help children develop a sense of balance, roundedness and wellbeing. Readers can literally and figuratively, turn the story on its head, and look at the very same situations from different angles. In this first book, ‘My Mummy’s a Monster’ an inquisitive little girl is convinced her mum is a monster. But, is she really? When we look through her mummy’s eyes, we see a very different story.

My Mummy Is A Monster is available in ebook and paperback now. You can purchase your copy using the link below.

My Review:

My Mummy is a monster is a funny, entertaining children’s book which has quickly become a firm favourite with my children at bedtime.

The story is told from two different points of view, the children and mummy which I thought was very clever. My kids found it fascinating to read both sides and found it interesting to see how I might be feeling. It led to my seven year old saying ‘oh that’s why you do that’ which I found quite amusing.

The pictures are big and colourful which helped keep the kids interest as I was reading. They loved looking at them and seeing the little details in them and how they were different to the ones in the other side of the story. My seven year old commented that he liked how the monsters aren’t scary and have funny little details on then, like glasses, to show that they aren’t really a monster and aren’t really scary.

I would definitely recommend this book to other parents as my three have really enjoyed it. I would say it was suitable for 4-7 year olds as my two year old found it a little long and couldn’t sit through all of it. Although he loved looking at the pictures too.

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.

My Review:

Karin Slaughter is one of my favourite crime thriller writers and I always love a new book from her as I know it’s going to be a great read! This book was no exception and I knew from the first few pages that I would enjoy the book so I could just relax into the story.

Firstly I absolutely loved Will Trent who is very different from the detectives we normally encounter as he has learning difficulties. It was really interesting to see how he approached the case to overcome his difficulties. He was easy to warm to as his little quirks made him very loveable and I enjoyed following him on his investigation as I really wanted him to succeed.

The story is well told with flashback chapters showing some old characters which was a nice surprise. I enjoyed seeing Jeff again and it was interesting to see how Lena was as a new recruit. These are mixed in seamlessly with the present day chapters and helped the reader to get a clearer picture of what was going on.

Overall I really enjoyed this fast paced, gripping book which has to be one of my favourites in the series so far. There were lots of twists which kept me on my toes and always lots happening so the book was hard to put down. I raced through it in a couple of days which is no easy feat when you have three children. I can’t wait for her next one!

The Curious Case Of Faith And Grace is published in ebook and paperback on the 3rd July 2020. You can pre-order your copy using the link below.

My Review:

I really enjoyed this unsettling, engaging book which I found very hard to put down.

Told from multiple points of view the author gradually takes the reader through what happened and gives the reader a look into the strange lives of The Tiddle family which was quite eye opening to say the least. Slowly the reader gets to understand what life was like behind closed doors of this religious family and the type of punishments handed out to the twins if they were naughty. I found myself growing increasingly uncomfortable as I read wondering what it would have been like growing up in such an environment.

The twins themselves were quite creepy and some of their actions were actually quite disturbing at times. I could decide what to make of them which was very intriguing for me as I’m normally quite good at guessing. I found myself in the unusual position if not really liking them and I actually hoped at times that they’d be found guilty.

Overall I thought this was a very fast paced and well plotted thriller which kept me guessing until the end as I couldn’t work out if the twins were guilty or not. Parts of the story, including the descriptions of the murders sent a shiver up my spine as they were quite gruesome. This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m now very excited to read more from them in the future.

Huge thanks to Emma from Damp Pebbles Tours for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book.
